Social Media Re-think

It is done!

Felt good to finally make the decision to delete Facebook. Thanks to those of you who expressed an interest in my photography and you will all receive an email to notify you of this post. A test of whether or not this way of operating is going to work.

I have made the call to delete the platform from my computer for a number of reasons. The main reason is the incessant demand from the company for personal details. Constantly asking for my phone number, contacts and other information which enables them to make money, at the expense of personal privacy.

I’m not so narrow minded that I don’t see utility in Facebook. I know it has helped many people in all sorts of ways but for me personally it has offered nothing. It simply annoys me.

The intention is to post something on my blog once a month. It may not be photography related but will certainly have some sort of image based thread. I have a lot of things going on and most of them will mean I’m making pictures, talking about pictures, teaching photography or doing something that means I feel the urge to capture it and publicise it. Those of you that know me personally know that I have a lot of strings to my bow but I am adamant I am going to succeed with my photography in one form or another.

The Bigger Picture project is still ticking away in the background. Planning for a visit to the U.S.A in 2018 and maybe even further visits to Africa. I still have plenty of work from our month in Zambia, February 2017, that has not been seen. I am currently still posting on Instagram but due to that now being owned by Mr Zuckerberg I am considering leaving that too. I do like to post three image stories so maybe that could be something for this website. Perhaps a simple triptych once a week, no words, just pictures with an underlying narrative.

I will embrace feedback here on my website so feel free to use the comments box. All I get at the minute is spam. I am currently looking at getting an SSL certificate for my site even though it only takes an email address to leave a comment. If that is something that would make you happier leaving a comment then let me know and I will make it happen sooner rather than later.

And relax………

Thank you Andrew. Not quite social media free but as you have already seen I’m using twitter differently. Got sick of all the negativity and politically weighted content so I’m going to use it to concentrate on bike topics and people. Will certainly see you at some of the race meetings, kettle is always on.
